Digijohtajan rooli ja tietohallinto yrityksen strategiassa

Abstract

Tämä kandidaatintutkielma käsittelee digijohtajan roolia, sekä tietohallinnon roolia ja asemaa yritysten strategiassa. Tutkielma on suoritettu kirjallisuuskatsauksena aihealueen tutkimuksiin. Tutkielman pääasiallisena tarkoituksena on käsitellä uutta yritysten johtoryhmissä havaittua digijohtajan ilmiötä, ja muodostaa päätelmä digijohtajan roolin tarpeellisuudesta. Tutkielmassa selvitetään ensin, mikä merkitys tietohallinnolla on yrityksen toimintaan ja strategiaan. Tämän jälkeen käsitellään siitä, miten tietohallinnon asema on muuttunut ajan mittaan yrityksissä. Lopuksi käsitellään tutkimuksen pääaihetta eli digijohtajan roolia. Digijohtajan roolin syntymisen syistä sekä sen tarpeellisuudesta muodostetaan johtopäätökset tutkimuskysymyksiin vastaamisen muodossa. Kirjallisuuskatsauksessa käsitellyn aineiston mukaan voidaan sanoa, että digijohtajan roolin perustaminen on tarpeellista tietyissä tilanteissa oleville yrityksille. Digijohtajan roolin perustamisen suurimmaksi syyksi tutkimusten perusteella osoittautui digitaalisen transformaation aiheuttaman muutoksen johtamisen tarve yrityksissä.

This thesis studies and examines the role of corporate IT functions within the corporate strategy as well as the role of Chief Digital Officer. This thesis has been conducted as a literature review on studies relating to the aforementioned subjects. The main goal of the thesis is to examine the role of Chief Digital Officer and form conclusions on the necessity of the role within corporations. First topic of this thesis is to study the impact of IT in corporate strategy and functions. After this the role and importance of IT for corporations over time is examined. Lastly comes the main portion of the thesis in which the role of Chief Digital Officer is examined. The reasons for the emergence of the role of Chief Digital Officer and the necessity of the role are answered in the form of research questions. By examining the material reviewed in this literature review it can be concluded that the creation of the role of Chief Digital Officer is necessary and justified for corporations in specific situations. The main reasons behind the emergence of the role proved out to be the need for active leadership and organization of the changes caused by digital transformation in corporations.
