dc.description.abstract | Nowadays, the popularity of cloud-based services around the web and SaaS applications are empowering customers to improve their business processes and increase user productivity while reducing the company’s IT operation costs. The local Internet breakout solution provides improved performance when accessing cloud-based applications along with a greater user experience. The reason behind this is not having data travel through the corporate WAN to access the Internet at a single point. This new network design solution not only improves user experience by lower latency when accessing the Internet, but also offloading the applications traffic from corporate WAN connections.
The main theme of this study was to experiment how local could Internet breakout can help a corporation improve network performance, save band-width on corporate WAN link and to improve the end-user experience. Another area of interest is how to implement this Internet breakout on to the current corporate network. After discussing network performance importance for the corporation, this thesis concentrates on improving corporate network perfor-mance. Local Internet breakout is presented as a possible solution and how it could be implemented on the current corporate network. The different vendors’ solutions are discussed to give the reader a general overview of their solution and how those solutions can be implemented to the current corporate network.
For testing purposes, three vendors’ devices are deployed for this case study work. The tests are performed in eight different locations around the globe on the current corporate network. The aim of this experiment is to provide a proof of concept for Internet breakout on the target company’s network. | en |
