| dc.description.abstract | Minua kiehtoi tutkia ammattinäyttelijän kokemuksia näyttelijäntyöstä. Aiemmat tutkintoni Teatteritaiteen ohjaaja ja myöhemmin suoritettu sitä vastaava AMK-tutkinto sekä muutamat työkokemuksistani liittyvät teatteritaiteeseen. Kiinnostukseni alaan on säilynyt vahvana. Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteena on selvittää, millaista on näyttelijän roolin rakentamisen prosessi ja mitä taitoja näyttelijä käyttää roolia rakentaessaan sekä miten tietty rooli vaikuttaa näyttelijän työtapoihin.
Tutkimus edustaa laadullista tutkimusta ja tutkimusmenetelmänä käytettiin teemahaastattelua. Tutkimuksessa tarkastellaan neljän Suomen eturivin näyttelijän mielipiteitä ja kokemuksia näyttelemisestä. Aineisto kerättiin vuonna 2013 ja aineiston analyysissa on käytetty kvalitatiivista sisällönanalyysia. Työssä nojauduttiin hermeneuttiseen ja ymmärtämiseen pyrkivään ajattelutapaan tulkittaessa teemahaastattelujen sisältöä ja merkitystä. Tutkimus on luonteeltaan eksploratiivinen.
Kaikki tutkimuksen haastatellut painottivat tärkeänä faktojen etsimistä roolihenkilöstä sekä sitä, että näyttelijän roolin rakentamisen prosessissa täytyy tietää roolihenkilöhahmojen keskinäiset suhteet. Lisäksi he kaikki painottivat erityisesti ohjaajan ja tiimin merkitystä prosessissa ja tekstin lukua roolin rakentamisessa. Näyttelijät käyttivät aktiivisesti ajattelutyötä rakentaessaan roolihenkilönsä fyysistä ilmaisua. Tutkimuksen kaikki näyttelijät painottivat vuorovaikutusta vastanäyttelijöihin.
Puolet haastatelluista näyttelijöistä käyttivät puhtaasti omia kokemuksiaan materiaalin keräämisessä ja toiset kaksi rakensivat rooliaan keräämällä materiaalia muita ihmisiä tarkkailemalla. Kaikki tutkimuksen haastateltavat ilmaisivat rakastamista ja empatian tuntemista pahaa roolihahmoa kohtaan.
Tietyn roolin vaikutuksesta näyttelijän työtapoihin yksi tutkimuksen haastateltava toi esiin yleisön silmien avaamisen epäkohdille, opettamispyrkimyksen ja vaikuttamisen nähtyihin epäkohtiin. Toisella näyttelijällä tietty roolityö oli vaikuttanut siten, että hän käytti kuuloaistia hyväkseen näytellessään. Sama näyttelijä oli kokenut oman kehon ja iän rajoittavana tekijänä tietyssä roolityössään. Kolmas tutkimuksen haastateltava kykeni itsenäisesti tutkimaan tietyn roolin maailmaa tekstin takaa. Hänelle oli tärkeää saada oma mielipide selville, jotta hän kykeni olemaan roolihenkilönsä vaikean asian takana. Lisäksi monologia tehdessään tämä sama tutkimuksen haastateltava selvitti itselleen muiden näkymättömien vastanäyttelijöiden suhteet.

| dc.description.abstract | I was interested in studying professional actor`s experiences on her/his work. My previous degrees, Drama Instructor and Bachelor of Art as well as some of my work experiences are related to theatre. My fascination to this field has remained strong.
The goal of this study is to research how actors feel when they are processing and building up a role and how a certain role influences actor`s methods.
This study represents qualitative research and theme interview was used as the research method. Four forefront Finnish actors`opinions and experiences were examined in the thesis. The material was collected in the year 2013 and qualitative content interpretation was used in the analysis of the material. The work is based on hermeneutical approach and the main idea in the interpretation was to strive to understand the contents and meanings of the theme interviews. This study is explorative by nature.
All the actors in this study emphasized searching the facts in the role character and also that when building up a role you have to know the mutual relationships of the role characters. In addition, they all stressed especially the director`s and the team`s significance and reading the text in the role build up process. The actors used actively their mental capacity when they were building up their role character`s physical expression. All the actors in the study emphasized interaction with other actors.
Half of the interviewed actors used purely their own experiences in collecting material while the other half built up their role collecting by observing other people. All the interviewees in the study expressed loving and feeling empathy to their bad role character.
As an example on how one´s role can have an impact on actor`s methods one interviewee brought out the opening the eyes of audience to drawbacks, aiming to teach and have an impact on the audience. A certain role had affected another actor so that she took advance of her auditory sense. This actor had experienced her own body and age as a limiting factor in a certain role. The third interviewee in the study was independently able to examine the world hidden behind the words in a certain role. It was important for him to find out his own opinion so that he was able to stand by his role`s hard affair. In addition, when this actor had a monology to work on, he found out the relationships of the unseen actors by himself.
