Abstract: Augmented Reality is an area of Mixed Reality where virtual images
are superimposed upon the real environment the user sees. This survey studies,
based on previous work, the possibilities for creating Augmented Reality user
interfaces for home user applications. Different ways of creating Augmented
Reality user interfaces and different types of Augmented Reality applications
are introduced and possible home user Augmented reality applications are
discussed.

Internet addiction continuum and its moderating effect on augmented reality application experiences : digital natives versus older users
Stangl, Brigitte; Kastner, Margit; Park, Sangwon; Ukpabi, Dandison (Routledge, 2023)Problematic online usage (POU) and Internet addiction (IA) lack a refined classification. Using 796 questionnaires, this study is the first to reveal a continuum ranging from Casual users (i.e. older users) to Addicts (i.e. ... -
Augmented Reality Applications : The Impact of Usability and Emotional Perceptions on Tourists’ App Experiences
Stangl, B.; Ukpabi, D.C.; Park, S. (Springer, 2020)There is a rising amount of research contributing to the knowledgebase of Augmented Reality (AR) application usage. However, up until now there is no sound understanding about how the emotional perception of AR application ... -
Sociability in Virtual Reality : Evaluations of Three Iterative Application Versions along a Design Science Research Process
Holopainen, Jani; Mattila, Osmo; Parvinen, Petri; Pöyry, Essi; Tuunanen, Tuure (Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), 2021)This study investigates sociability in the context of immersive Virtual Reality (VR). A Design Science Research process was applied, and three iterative development versions of a VR application were studied. Sociability ... -
Design Principles for Virtual Reality Applications Used in Collaborative Service Encounters
Pöyry, Essi; Holopainen, Jani; Parvinen, Petri; Mattila, Osmo; Tuunanen, Tuure (SAGE Publications, 2024)Immersive technologies like virtual reality (VR) provide new opportunities to augment service encounters by supporting customer–service agent collaboration and problem-solving. Guided by the value cocreation and service ... -
Enabling Sociability When Using Virtual Reality Applications : A Design Science Research Approach
Holopainen, Jani; Mattila, Osmo; Parviainen, Petri; Pöyry, Essi; Tuunanen, Tuure (University of Hawai'i at Manoa, 2019)Immersive virtual reality applications aim at providing an all-encompassing spatial experience where a user can feel like being in another world or dimension. The systems are inherently designed for individual use as ...
