The purpose of this study was to find out, how physical education students experience their mental health skills, mental health readiness and mental health values and map out what kind of differences are found in those skills, readiness and values between sex and class. Data was collected by Webropol –inquiry between March 2020 and April 2020 which was distributed by email and with Whatsapp application. The participants of the thesis were students of the Faculty of Sport Sciences at the University of Jyväskylä (N = 70; 25 men, 50 woman). Study was concluded using quantitative method. Material was analyzed by SPSS using one-way analysis of variance, independent samples t-test and Pearson product moment correlation.
In the study there were examination between class and gender about mental health readiness, mental health skills that students possess and their mental health values. In the study there were no significant statistical differences regarding gender or class. Mental health readiness correlated strongly with mental health skills. Also teacher students own mental health skills received low values compared to other meansum variables.
There were no earlier studies about mental health skills of PE students, so this study mainly is showing the way forward for the next possible studies. The only find from the study were connection between readiness that the PE program gives to the students and mental health skills that students possess. In the future, it would be preferred to include teachers who have already worked in the field into the study.
