We revisit our argument that shows that parton distribution functions (PDFs) in the MS scheme are nonnegative in the perturbative region, with the dual goals of clarifying its theoretical underpinnings and elucidating its domain of validity. We specifically discuss recent results proving that PDFs can turn negative at sufficiently low scale, we clarify quantitatively various aspects of our derivation of positivity in the perturbative region, and we provide an estimate for the scale above which PDF positivity holds.

Constraints on nuclear parton distributions from dijet photoproduction at the LHC
Guzey, Vadim; Klasen, Michael (Springer, 2019)Using QCD calculations of the cross section of inclusive dijet photoproduction in Pb–Pb ultraperipheral collisions in the LHC kinematics as pseudo-data, we study the effect of including these data using the Bayesian ... -
Applicability of pion–nucleus Drell–Yan data in global analysis of nuclear parton distribution functions
Paakkinen, Petja; Eskola, Kari; Paukkunen, Hannu (Elsevier B.V., 2017)Despite the success of modern nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs) in describing nuclear hard-process data, they still suffer from large uncertainties. One of the poorly constrained features is the possible asymmetry ... -
NNLO nuclear parton distribution functions with electroweak-boson production data from the LHC
Helenius, Ilkka; Walt, Marina; Vogelsang, Werner (American Physical Society (APS), 2022)We present new sets of nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs) at next-to-leading order and next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative QCD. Our analyses are based on deeply inelastic scattering data with charged-lepton ... -
Numerical evaluation of the nonlinear Gribov-Levin-Ryskin-Mueller-Qiu evolution equations for nuclear parton distribution functions
Rausch, J.; Guzey, V.; Klasen, M. (American Physical Society (APS), 2023)We numerically study for the first time the nonlinear GLR-MQ evolution equations for nuclear parton distribution function (nPDFs) to next-to-leading order accuracy and quantify the impact of gluon recombination at small ... -
EPPS16: nuclear parton distributions with LHC data
Eskola, Kari; Paakkinen, Petja; Paukkunen, Hannu; Salgado, Carlos A. (Springer, 2017)We introduce a global analysis of collinearly factorized nuclear parton distribution functions (PDFs) including, for the first time, data constraints from LHC proton–lead collisions. In comparison to our previous analysis, ...
