Calderini, Marco and University of Jyväskylä
The dataset consists of lake 12 Finnish lakes food web (phytoplankton, zooplankton, and fish) across a nutrient gradient (total phosphorus and total nitrogen). Data corresponds to biomass and community composition, phytoplankton size and classification based on edibility for zooplankton. Phytoplankton primary production (volumetric production and productivity) calculated as incorporation of 13C into fatty acids and their relationship with total phosphorus. In addition, fatty acid content of EPA and DHA of zooplankton and fish in different species is analysed and its relation to production and total phosphorus is analysed. Scripts of data and data processing together with input and output files are given. For more detailed description, see the attached documentation.

Poor nutritional quality of primary producers and zooplankton driven by eutrophication is mitigated at upper trophic levels Taipale, Sami Johan; Ventelä, Anne‐Mari; Litmanen, Jaakko; Anttila, Lauri (John Wiley & Sons, 2022)Eutrophication and rising water temperature in freshwaters may increase the total production of a lake while simultaneously reducing the nutritional quality of food web components. We evaluated how cyanobacteria blooms, ...
Eutrophication reduces the nutritional value of phytoplankton in boreal lakes Taipale, Sami J.; Vuorio, Kristiina; Aalto, Sanni L.; Peltomaa, Elina; Tiirola, Marja (Elsevier, 2019)Eutrophication (as an increase in total phosphorus [TP]) increases harmful algal blooms and reduces the proportion of high-quality phytoplankton in seston and the content of ω-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids ...
Interacting effects of simulated eutrophication, temperature increase, and microplastic exposure on Daphnia Hiltunen, Minna; Vehniäinen, Eeva-Riikka; Kukkonen, Jussi V. K. (Elsevier BV, 2021)The effects of multiple stressors are difficult to separate in field studies, and their interactions may be hard to predict if studied in isolation. We studied the effects of decreasing food quality (increase in cyanobacteria ...
Simulated eutrophication and browning alters zooplankton nutritional quality and determines juvenile fish growth and survival Taipale, Sami; Kahilainen, Kimmo Kalevi; Holtgrieve, Gordon William; Peltomaa, Elina Talvikki (Blackwell Publishing Ltd, 2018)The first few months of life is the most vulnerable period for fish and their optimal hatching time with zooplankton prey is favored by natural selection. Traditionally, however, prey abundance (i.e., zooplankton density) ...
Potential for large-bodied zooplankton and dreissenids to alter the productivity and autotrophic structure of lakes Higgins, Scott N.; Althouse, B.; Devlin, Shawn; Vadeboncoeu, Y.; Zanden, M. J. Vander (Ecological Society of America, 2014)While limnological studies have emphasized the importance of grazers on algal biomass and primary production in pelagic habitats, few studies have examined their potential role in altering total ecosystem primary production ...
