Shape coexistence in Hg, Tl and Pb nuclei beyond the 82<N<126 mid-shell
In this thesis coexisting structures in the neutron-deficient 174, 176, 177Hg, 183TI and 182, 184Pb nuclei have been studied at the Accelerator Laboratory of the University of Jyväskylä. To probe these nuclei in the close vicinity of the proton drip-line the Recoil-Decay-Tagging (RDT) technique based on the use of a germanium detector array in conjunction with the gas-filled recoil separator RITU has been utilised. The excited states have been observed for the first time in 174, 177Hg and 182, 184Pb nuclei. The energies of newly observed levels in 176Hg and the band-head of the yrast πi13/2 band in 183Tl have been determined. The experimental results are compared both to the level-energy systematics of the heavier isotopes and theoretical predictions. The new results are in accordance with the scheme of the intruding prolate-deformed structures minimising their energies near the N=104 neutron mid-shell in Hg and Pb nuclei.

In-beam spectroscopic studies of shape coexistence and collectivity in the neutron-deficient Z ≈ 82 nuclei
Julin, Rauno; Grahn, Tuomas; Pakarinen, Janne; Rahkila, Panu (Institute of Physics Publishing Ltd.; Institute of Physics, 2016)In the present paper we focus on studies of shape coexistence in even-mass nuclei in the neutron-deficient Pb region. They are based on experiments carried out using tagging techniques in the Accelerator Laboratory of the ... -

Many-body Green's function theory of electrons and nuclei beyond the Born-Oppenheimer approximation
Härkönen, Ville J.; van Leeuwen, Robert; Gross, E. K. U. (American Physical Society, 2020)The method of many-body Green's functions is developed for arbitrary systems of electrons and nuclei starting from the full (beyond Born-Oppenheimer) Hamiltonian of Coulomb interactions and kinetic energies. The theory ... -
Production of light nuclei and anti-nuclei in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at energies available at the CERN Large Hadron Collider
ALICE Collaboration (American Physical Society, 2016)The production of (anti-)deuteron and (anti-) 3 He nuclei in Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV has been studied using the ALICE detector at the LHC. The spectra exhibit a significant hardening with increasing centrality. ... -
Precision measurement of the mass difference between light nuclei and anti-nuclei
ALICE Collaboration (Nature Publishing Group, 2015)The measurement of the mass di erences for systems bound by the strong force has reached a very high precision with protons and anti-protons1,2 . The extension of such measurement from (anti-)baryons to (anti-)nuclei ...
