Abstract

The text examines the relocation of ceded Vyborg’s administrative, social and cultural institutions in the rest of Finland. The heritage of the city was fragmented over a large area because the remaining part of Karelia did not have a city large enough to accommodate the Vyborgian facilities. In this respect, the competition between the fairly strong regional centres slowed down the urban development of the whole of Eastern Finland.
