This bachelor’s thesis is about the structure and the properties of different calix[4]pyrroles.
Specifically, the binding of calix[4]pyrroles with different phosphate-containing molecules is
assessed. These phosphate-binding properties are compared across different substituent-containing calix[4]pyrroles, using for example association constants. Some applications for the use of the complexes are also discussed

Binding of ion pairs and neutral guests by aryl-extended meso‑p-hydroxyphenyl calix[4]pyrrole : The interplay between three binding sites
Pamuła, Małgorzata; Bulatov, Evgeny; Helttunen, Kaisa (Elsevier BV, 2023)An aryl-extended calix[4]pyrrole with four meso‑p-hydroxyphenyl substituents was investigated as a host for chloride, acetate, and benzoate anions. Crystal structures of pyridinium and imidazolium chloride complexes were ... -
Anion Responsive Molecular Switch Based on a Doubly‐Strapped Calix[4]pyrrole
Helttunen, Kaisa (Wiley-VCH Verlag, 2022)A calix[4]pyrrole receptor bearing two proximally meso - meso linking isophthaloyl straps displays open and closed states depending on the calix[4]pyrrole conformation. In the crystal structures and in non-polar solvent, ... -

Ion–Molecule Rate Constants for Reactions of Sulfuric Acid with Acetate and Nitrate Ions
Fomete, Sandra K. W.; Johnson, Jack S.; Myllys, Nanna; Neefjes, Ivo; Reischl, Bernhard; Jen, Coty N. (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2022)Atmospheric nucleation from precursor gases is a significant source of cloud condensation nuclei in the troposphere and thus can affect the Earth’s radiative balance. Sulfuric acid, ammonia, and amines have been identified ...
