Rapidly expanding digitalisation profoundly affects several jobs and businesses in the following years. Some of the jobs are expected to disappear altogether. The expanding digitalisation can be seen as an example of the diffusion of innovations. The world has witnessed similar developments since the early years of industrialisation. Some of the sectors that will face the most disruptive changes are accounting, bookkeeping, and auditing. As much as 94 to 98 per cent of these jobs are at risk. The purpose of this study was to find out how digitalisation, automation of routines, robotics, and artificial intelligence are expected to affect the business structure, organisations, tasks, and employees in Finland in the following years. In this study, 11 of the biggest companies providing outsourced accounting services in Finland were interviewed. According to the results, the development of the technology will lead to substantial loss of routine jobs in the industry in the next few years. T he results of the study will help estimate the changes the rapidly developing technology will bring to the industry in focus. The results will also help the organisations in the industry to learn from the experiences of the other organisations, see the potential benefits, and prepare for the forthcoming change through strategic choices, management, and personnel training.

The Slow Adoption Rate of Software Robotics in Accounting and Payroll Services and the Role of Resistance to Change in Innovation-Decision Process
Sarilo-Kankaanranta, Henriika; Frank, Lauri (Springer, 2022)Robotic process automation (RPA) has by now for years been viewed as a disruptive innovation that will have a significant impact on accounting, HR and payroll services, and yet the rate of adopting the innovation has not ... -
On the a posteriori error analysis for linear Fokker-Planck models in convection-dominated diffusion problems
Matculevich, Svetlana; Wolfmayr, Monika (Elsevier, 2018)This work is aimed at the derivation of reliable and efficient a posteriori error estimates for convection-dominated diffusion problems motivated by a linear Fokker–Planck problem appearing in computational neuroscience. ... -
Modeling mass transfer in fracture flows with the time domain-random walk method
Kuva, Jukka; Voutilainen, Mikko; Mattila, Keijo (Springer, 2019)The time domain-random walk method was developed further for simulating mass transfer in fracture flows together with matrix diffusion in surrounding porous media. Specifically, a time domain-random walk scheme was developed ... -
Exploring fast proton transfer events associated with lateral proton diffusion on the surface of membranes
Amdursky, Nadav; Lin, Yiyang; Aho, Noora; Groenhof, Gerrit (National Academy of Sciences, 2019)Proton diffusion (PD) across biological membranes is a fundamental process in many biological systems, and much experimental and theoretical effort has been employed for deciphering it. Here, we report on a spectroscopic ...
