Rho GDP-dissociation inhibitor α (RhoGDIα) is a known negative regulator of the Rho family
that shuts off GDP/GTP cycling and cytoplasm/membrane translocation to regulate cell
migration. However, to our knowledge, no reports are available that focus on how the
RhoGDIα-Rho GTPases complex is activated by laminar flow through exploring the activation
of RhoGDIα itself. Here, we constructed a new biosensor using fluorescence resonance
energy transfer (FRET) technology to measure the spatio-temporal activation of RhoGDIα in
its binding with Rho GTPases in living HeLa cells. Using this biosensor, we find that the
dissociation of the RhoGDIα-Rho GTPases complex is increased by shear stress, and its
dissociation rate varies with subcellular location. Moreover, this process is mediated by
membrane fluidity, cytoskeleton and Src activity, which indicates that the regulation of
RhoGDIα activation under shear stress application represents a relatively separate pathway
from the shear stress-induced Rho pathway.

A DNA‐Encoded FRET Biosensor for Visualizing the Tension across Paxillin in Living Cells upon Shear Stress
Shao, Shuai; Deng, Sha; Jiang, Qingyun; Zhang, Hangyu; Zhang, Zhengyao; Li, Na; Cong, Fengyu; Tiihonen, Timo; Liu, Bo (Wiley, 2022)Paxillin is a potential participant in the direct intracellular force transmission which is considered as the foundation of cells sensing and responding to extracellular environment. However, the detection of tension across ... -
Spatio-temporal differences in the growth of wild and reared Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) in the Baltic Sea
Peltola, Mikko (2013)Syönnösvaellus ja nopea kasvu ovat olennainen osa Atlantin lohen (Salmo salar L.) ekologiaa, niinpä kasvunopeuden selvittäminen on tärkeä osa kalatutkimusta. Tuottavimmat syönnösalueet tulisi tietää, jotta olisi mahdollista ... -
Of people and trees: exploring the spatio-temporal dynamics of urban and periurban dwellers’ social representations of trees.
Vuillot, Carole; Dufournet, Marylou; Prévot, Anne-Caroline (Open Science Centre, University of Jyväskylä, 2018)Almost 40 years ago, Pyle [1] started to warn the scientific community about the progressive disconnection between urban dwellers and nature. This so-called "extinction of experience" may affect individual relationships ... -
Spatio-temporal modeling of co-dynamics of smallpox, measles, and pertussis in pre-healthcare Finland
Pasanen, Tiia-Maria; Helske, Jouni; Högmander, Harri; Ketola, Tarmo (PeerJ Inc., 2024)Infections are known to interact as previous infections may have an effect on risk of succumbing to a new infection. The co-dynamics can be mediated by immunosuppression or modulation, shared environmental or climatic ... -
Large‐scale long‐term passive‐acoustic monitoring reveals spatio‐temporal activity patterns of boreal bats

(Wiley-Blackwell, 2023)The distribution ranges and spatio-temporal patterns in the occurrence and activity of boreal bats are yet largely unknown due to their cryptic lifestyle and lack of suitable and efficient study methods. We approached the ...
