Tutkielma on toteutettu kokonaisuudessaan kertovana kirjallisuuskatsauksena.fi
Companies’ IT-investments became more common in the beginning of the 1970’s. Over 15 years later researchers begun to question the business impact of these expensive systems and IT-infrastructure. This phenomenon was given the name of productivity paradox of information technology. This bachelor’s thesis considers the development of the productivity paradox phenomenon during the 1990’s and turn of 2000’s and seeks to apply this to framework of the modern era. Reason to write this thesis is that in the turn of 2000’s, an ostensible consensus was reached in the research of this subject, and after that, the amount of research regarding this matter has dropped notably. Still, IT-investments are a great notch in the budgets of modern companies and the business impacts achieved are often modest or non-existant even today. Thus, it is essential to examine this old phenomenon in today’s frame of reference. In the results the development of the productivity paradox phenomenon is clarified, and we find out about the reasons behind it. Most notable reasons that come up are difficulties in measurement, and unrealistic expectations. We also conclude that productivity paradox is a relevant phenomenon even today. This thesis has been fully produced as a narrative literature review.en
