Yrittäjyyttä eri ulottuvuuksineen on tutkittu laajasti. ...

The entrepreneurial process and its many dimensions have been studied in detail for decades (eg. Shane, 2003). Cultural industries, including the entertainment industry, on the other hand, have increased their appeal in the academic research field lately, covering topics from industry dynamics to industry-specific features. Becoming a celebrity is one of the most renowned forms of succeeding in the cultural industries. Studies on the intersection of entrepreneurship and the celebrities in the cultural industries are however missing in current literature. Using the grounded-theory and the autoethnographic methods, phenomena that exists in this intersection is revealed in this study. In the data I discovered a framework that was formed of three aggregate dimensions – the individual-level factors, the breakthrough opportunity, and the growth and maintenance phase of one’s career. The analysis indicates that in order to find success in the cultural industries, certain individual-level factors, such as experiences and cognitive characteristics, are beneficial for the entrepreneur, and that pseudo-events are a central tool for creating continuity in the celebrity and cultural industries. Industry-specific resources were also identified, namely the importance of outer appearances, and the skills to manufacture pseudo-events in the absence of a team that would do it for you. The research adds to the understanding of the individual-opportunity nexus in a new context, exposing features that are specific to the celebrity and cultural industries. The proposed framework provides a basis for future research concerned with the intersection of entrepreneurship, celebrity industry, and the cultural industries. ...
