We prove the absence of non-scattering energies for potentials in the plane having a corner of angle smaller than ππ. This extends the earlier result of Blåsten, Päivärinta and Sylvester who considered rectangular corners. In three dimensions, we prove a similar result for any potential with a circular conic corner whose opening angle is outside a countable subset of (0, ππ).

On Scattering Behavior of Corner Domains with Anisotropic Inhomogeneities
Kow, Pu-Zhao; Salo, Mikko; Shahgholian, Henrik (Society for Industrial & Applied Mathematics (SIAM), 2024)This paper investigates the possible scattering and nonscattering behavior of an anisotropic and inhomogeneous Lipschitz medium at a fixed wave number and with a single incident field. We connect the anisotropic nonscattering ... -
Shape identification in inverse medium scattering problems with a single far-field pattern
Hu, Guanghui; Salo, Mikko; Vesalainen, Esa (Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, 2016)Consider time-harmonic acoustic scattering from a bounded penetrable obstacle D ⊂ R N embedded in a homogeneous background medium. The index of refraction characterizing the material inside D is supposed to be Hölder ... -
Quadrature Domains for the Helmholtz Equation with Applications to Non-scattering Phenomena
Kow, Pu-Zhao; Larson, Simon; Salo, Mikko; Shahgholian, Henrik (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2022)In this paper, we introduce quadrature domains for the Helmholtz equation. We show existence results for such domains and implement the so-called partial balayage procedure. We also give an application to inverse scattering ... -
Strictly-correlated-electron approach to excitation energies of dissociating molecules
Cort Barrada, Luis; Nielsen, Soeren Ersbak Bang; van Leeuwen, Robert (American Physical Society, 2019)In this work we consider a numerically solvable model of a two-electron diatomic molecule to study a recently proposed approximation based on the density functional theory of so-called strictly correlated electrons ... -
Structural complexity in managed and strictly protected mountain forests: effects on the habitat suitability for indicator bird species
Braunisch, Veronika; Roder, Stefanie; Coppes, Joy; Bollmann, Kurt (Open Science Centre, University of Jyväskylä, 2018)Increasing the proportion of unmanaged forest in multi-functional forest landscapes is a central goal of international and national conservation strategies. However, the structural development in newly created forest ...
