This research study was done in
2008 as part of Master’s degree in
Business. The research material was
collected during spring and summer
2008. In addition to the earlier
Master’s thesis research material,
more recent relevant research and
articles are used in this study. The
objective of this study is to describe
and understand the role of power
in managerial work. The aim of
the research is to study how power
appears in managerial work and
in the relationship between leader
and follower. This research is a
qualitative study, which uses theme
interviews as its research method.
The research material was collected
through individual interviews. Six
managers of OP-Pohjola-Group
were interviewed. Some parts of
the interviews were included to
the empirical part of the thesis.
The research gave a picture of
leadership, management and power
in managerial work. The research
shows that managers see power
as an important part of their job.
Managers need power so that they
can lead the organization towards
its goals.
