Litteroimme tarkat palautteet suoraan pariterapiaistuntojen tallenteista. Olimme lisäksi perehtyneet aikaisempiin aiheesta tehtyihin tutkimuksiin ja kirjallisuuteen, ja käytimme teoriaa apuna tekemiemme havaintojen perustelemiseen. Tutkimuksemme tulosten mukaan asiakkaiden pariterapiaistunnoista antama palaute kohdistui puheenaiheisiin, puolison toimintaan, puheenvuorojen epätasapuolisuuteen, terapian hyödyttömyyteen sekä terapeuttien toimintaan. Asiakkaat täyttivät istunnon lopuksi SRS-lomakkeet (Session Rating Scale), joilla arvioitiin tyytyväisyyttä istunnon eri osioihin. Istunnoista tehdyt havainnot karsittiin asiakkaan SRS-arvioiden perusteella.
The purpose of this study was to examine what kind of dissatisfaction clients bring up during couples therapy. In addition we aim to find out which factors in therapy sessions may have contributed the client dissatisfaction. Our research is part of the Couples therapy in intimate partner violence –study from Jyväskylä University. Our study material contained ten couple therapy sessions from eight heterosexual couples. All couples had committed the therapy because of intimate partner violence. Couples consisted of male perpetrators and female victims. The sessions were selected by the client dissatisfaction ratings. We became familiar with the therapy sessions, transcribed accurate feedback, and made observations from the sessions. We registered all the qualities of the sessions which could have affected the poor evaluation. The study was conducted with qualitative methods. We used content analysis as our method and our study is both data-driven and theory guiding. We gathered the transcribed material directly from couples therapy session recordings. We were familiar with the studies and literature about our topic made earlier which may have had an impact on our observation findings. Our research results show that feedback from couple therapy sessions focused on speech topics, spouses, uneven speeches, felt uselessness about the therapy and therapists. Clients filled SRS (Session Rating Scale) forms at the end of each session to estimate the degree of satisfaction with the various sections of the session. The findings were delimited on the basis of each client’s SRS estimates. After that we categorized the remaining discoveries according to the SRS-subscales into four categories: Relationship, Goals and topics, Approach or method and Overall. According our observations from therapy sessions the clients’ dissatisfaction was focused at missing dialogues, uneven speech topics and turns, ignored wishes, therapists’ partiality, irrelevant topics, therapists’ disagreements, progress of the conversation and the spouse. Based on our observation findings session dissatisfaction related to the interaction during sessions, therapists, spouses and speech topics. Our results suggest that the interaction and the therapeutic relationship is a big part of the couple therapy process.en
