The Cyclotron Institute at Texas A&M is currently configuring a scheme for the production of
radioactive-ion beams that incorporates a light-ion guide and a heavy-ion guide coupled with an
electron-cyclotron-resonance ion source constructed for charge-breeding. This scheme is part of an
upgrade to the facility and is intended to produce radioactive beams suitable for injection into the
K500 superconducting cyclotron. The current status of the project and details on the ion sources used
in the project is presented.

(American Physical Society (APS), 2020)We measured absolute cross sections for neutron transfer channels populated in the 94Rb+208Pb binary reaction. Cross sections have been extracted identifying directly the lead isotopes with the high efficiency MINIBALL ... -

Production of a 15C radioactive ion beam based on 18O(n, α)
Malkiewicz, T.; Lhersonneau, G.; Fadil, M.; Jacobsson, U.; Jones, P.; Helariutta, K.; Karvonen, P.; Khlebnikov, S.; Trzaska, W. H. (Springer, 2019)In the context of the SPIRAL2 radioactive beam facility the production rate of the neutron-rich 15C nucleus by 18O(n,α) has been investigated. In a water target of 20 cm3, enriched in 18O and placed behind the neutron ... -
Radiofrequency and 2.45 GHz electron cyclotron resonance H− volume production ion sources
Tarvainen, Olli; Peng, S. X. (Institute of Physics Publishing Ltd.; Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft, 2016)The volume production of negative hydrogen ions (H-) in plasma ion sources is based on dissociative electron attachment (DEA)to rovibrationally excited hydrogen molecules(H2), which is a two-step process requiring both, ... -
Photo-assisted Cl-, Br- and I- production in caesium sputter ion source
Hossain, A.; Tarvainen, O.; Reponen, M.; Kronholm, R.; Julin, J.; Kalvas, T.; Toivanen, V.; Kivekäs, M.; Laitinen, M. (IOP Publishing, 2023)We have measured the effect of 445 nm, high power diode laser, directed on the cathode of a SNICS ion source on the extracted beam currents of Cl-, Br- and I- ion beams. Beam current enhancement factors up to 9 were observed ...
