In order to explore the nature of collective modes in weakly bound nuclei, we have investigated surface flow patterns of isoscalar monopole modes in a shape-coexisting nucleus 40Mg. The calculations were done in a fully self-consistent continuum finite-amplitude-method quasiparticle-random-phase-approximation (FAM-QRPA) in a large deformed spatial mesh. Our results demonstrated that the transition current densities at surfaces are nontrivial and dependent on deformations. The toroidal mode is favorable in the oblate shape, demonstrating the geometric deformation effects on nuclear surface flows. The surface flow patterns become more complicated as excitation energies increase.

Impact of the surface energy coefficient on the deformation properties of atomic nuclei as predicted by Skyrme energy density functionals
Ryssens, W.; Bender, M.; Bennaceur, Karim; Heenen, P.-H.; Meyer, J. (American Physical Society, 2019)Background: In the framework of nuclear energy density functional (EDF) methods, many nuclear phenomena are related to the deformation of intrinsic states. Their accurate modeling relies on the correct description of the ... -
Ion traps in nuclear physics : recent results and achievements
Eronen, Tommi; Kankainen, Anu; Äystö, Juha (Pergamon, 2016)Ion traps offer a way to determine nuclear binding energies through atomic mass measurements with a high accuracy and they are routinely used to provide isotopically or even isomerically pure beams of short-living ions for ... -
Nuclear physics of non-standard 0νβ β-decay
Kotila, J.; Graf, L.; Deppisch, F. F.; Iachello, F. (American Institute of Physics, 2019)The observation neutrinoless double beta (0νβ β) decay remains crucial for understanding lepton number violation. In view of the difficulties to observe the mass mechanism of 0νβ β-decay, investigations of other mechanisms ... -
