Sharing biodiveristy data openly or restrictiong the access?
(Oral)

SEE PEER REVIEW
Open biodiversity data could be very useful for monitoring and perhaps even for conservation science, but is it worth the trouble? Is it possible to share good (enough) quality data and are there risks involved? How to have a cake and eat it too?
I will present some cases from personal experience, dealing with the openness skeptics, data paranoids, openness advocates, citizen scientists etc. and share their concerns as data providers or data users. Hopefully we will find some solutions in our discussion!
INTRO: Discussion about open access data.
MERITS: Current and hot topic as the application of open access policy increases rapidly in institutes, universities and journals.
CRITIQUE: The text is short, but actually way too long, considering it has very little information. There is nothing about data (cases) the discussion will be based on. Author name(s) missing. Also, open access problems might be culture (country, discipline) dependent so these should also be revealed.
DISCUSSION: The topic as such is extremely important, and very little has so far been discussed about pros and cons of open access data policies. But rather than (apparently) presenting miscellaneous personal experiences, I would like to see, for example, an interview (or questionnaire) based approach on the topic.
